ROSE SPECS ‘Modern Music’
These four tracks span about five years in their casual yet careful making. The sound is somewhat reminiscent of the jazzy electronic experi-optimism to be found in Rose’s earlier Lab Beat release ‘Glitch Style Forays’, however the intricate detailing, classy arrangements and astute production are all well advanced here. Magnificent swirling sonic walls, striking complexities and assertive compositional forms merge to move the heart and cerebrum whilst manifesting truly modern music (albeit somewhat dated already). Knee-jerk title associations and authoritive ramblings aside this is an inspiring and unique work that commands considerable Rose-spect… oh dear!

ROB ROY ‘Dirty Samplin EP’
Mod Head Recordings presents the debut release by Italian producer Rob Roy (Robel Woldeghiorgis). “Dirty Samplin EP” is an impressive showcase of the Milan native’s skills; these range from dusty skewed hip hop to exquisite synth laden beat futurisms. Like the throngs Rob has drawn much inspiration from artists such as Madlib, Flying Lotus, Samiyam and Dilla, however the resultant sounds are much more noteworthy than the multitude. An admirable playful positivism pervades; such stems from Rob’s long held love of music and very personable character. The beats are beautifully put together, often shimmer magically and always bump in the right places.

ROSE SPECS ‘Sampool/Plasma Pipe dreams’
Rose Specs again dons the pleasant lens that characterised his early musical approach with the release of this long overdue two-tracker. More than a few years old, these tracks hark back to the early stages of the modern beat movement and provide cruisy warmth amid their off-kilter templates. Overtones of melancholic subtlety are somewhat present but occur in a larger context of calmness that celebrates emotional variance… See what ya reckon anyway.

ROSE SPECS ‘The Bomp Monster E.P. 2’
“Still Bompin”. Back by unpopular demand Rose Specs delivers another post-dilla-apocalyptic beat instalment with the release of "Bomp Monster E.P. 2.” Devastating boom baps and ominous bass assaults combine with surly synths, dusty space junk and gritty production in a tinted orgy of crusty obesity. Somehow evokes images of a sad, singlet wearing fat man taking out some nasty trash at midnight. Is Rose Specs projecting dark feelings about the modern explosion of ‘beat culture’?... Perhaps. At any rate this release will surely provide interest to the afflicted if it ever surfaces in the massive flotsam infested tide. CD features hand stencilled red stuff by Rose himself and B graded printed materials in step with the heightened rawness of sound.

ROSE SPECS feat. CLEF DARK ‘Neurosis Science / Dubby Don't Dallas’
Rose Specs goes nuts with some jams recorded with Clef Dark on drums; crusty backyard avant-glitch-dub with real instruments, synths, vintage/modern production and an intriguing uniqueness that exceeds most in these homogenous and faceless times. The beguiling 'warts n all' approach may remedy a few minds besot with the sanitised musings of fashionable style adherences and bring relief to many conversely disenchanted types. Watch out for some gloriously wrong compression and enigmatic psychoactive properties.

ROSE SPECS ‘The Bomp Monster E.P.’
Rose Specs hijacks the ‘post Dilla-electronic crossover bandwagon’ and makes it jump the tracks to bump through some dark, edgey and somewhat bizarre territories. Created with the uttmost care to make one nicely strung out, flash a gritty smile, experience kaleidoscopic vertigo then drift into borderline catatonia as the bass bashing and deep tissue resonance takes over.

DANNY GEE THE THE GIANT ANTELOPE MC ‘Odes to the Wilder Diss’...
Mod Head Recordings has blasted off like a wobbly shuttle with Danny Gee the Giant Antelope MC's
debut album 'Odes to the Wilder Diss': A shameless, meglomaniacal and strangely disturbing romp through
the turgidly swung and largely electrified landscape of the original beast man's hip hop. Dan's tongue slices
relentlessly whilst still remaining mostly in cheek. Listen with caution as the ferocious animal style is
infectious and may cause you to revert to a lower order.
. Available as double CD that features an additional disc containing instrumentals and artwork derived from
paintings by Malcom Gibbs. All tracks are also available at Juno download as wav or mp3.
